Licenses, Gear, & Preparation

Do I need to buy a Florida fishing license?

No! When you fish with Fishy Business LLC, your valid Florida saltwater fishing license is completely covered under our charter boat license. It is entirely hassle-free.

What is included in the price of the charter?

Your trip is all-inclusive when it comes to the fishing itself. We provide the necessary fishing licenses, complimentary ice for the coolers, premium bait, and top-quality fishing tackle.

What should I bring on my fishing charter?

To ensure a comfortable trip, we recommend bringing your own food and snacks, plenty of drinks to stay hydrated, and high-quality sunscreen. We also strongly advise wearing light-soled, non-marking shoes for safety and comfort on the boat deck.

Can we bring alcohol on the boat?

Yes, alcohol is permitted on board. We provide the ice, so just bring your favorite beverages in a cooler bag or use our onboard coolers. We ask that all guests drink responsibly for their own safety.

Can I bring my own fishing rod and tackle?

Absolutely. While we provide premium gear perfectly suited for the fish we target, you are more than welcome to bring your favorite light tackle. Captain Rick is happy to offer expert recommendations tailored to your personal gear and fishing style.

The Fishing Experience

What kind of fish will we catch?

The waters off Bradenton and Anna Maria Island are incredibly diverse. Depending on the season and location (flats, reefs, or Gulf), we target Snook, Redfish, Speckled Trout, Cobia, Tarpon, King Mackerel, Mangrove Snapper, and Grouper, among others!

When is the best time to fish in Bradenton and Anna Maria Island?

Fishing is excellent year-round on Florida’s Gulf Coast! In the winter and early spring, we target big Sheepshead and early Kingfish. Spring and summer bring the massive Tarpon migration and aggressive Shark fishing. Snook, Redfish, and Trout are staples throughout much of the year.

When is the best time to book a Tarpon charter?

Tarpon (the “Silver King”) typically migrate through the Anna Maria Island and Tampa Bay area from early spring through the summer. These specialized Tarpon trips are incredibly popular, so we highly recommend booking your prime dates well in advance.

Are we guaranteed to catch fish?

While they don’t call it “catching,” Captain Rick’s 30+ years of localized experience, top-tier electronics, and intimate knowledge of the tides and seasons give you the absolute best chance of a highly productive day.

Can we keep the fish we catch?

Yes! As long as the fish are within the legal size limits and are currently in season according to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) regulations, you are welcome to keep your catch for a delicious fresh seafood dinner.
